Last-Minute DIY Halloween Costumes for the Unprepared

Nobody wants to be the one with a lame costume on Halloween, but if you’re anything like me, you like to leave things to the last minute. It can get pretty stressful trying to come up with an original idea close to October 31st, so here are some costumes you can throw together in no time.

Whether you’re going out trick-or-treating with the kids, staying at home, or heading out to a Halloween party, these fun costumes will get you oh’s and ah’s from everyone!

1. Bee Keeper

We’ve all seen variations of the bumblebee costume, but what about the bee keeper? This simple DIY costume is fashionable, feminine, and creative. You’ll need: a straw chapeau, fake bees, tulle or some other transparent fabric, and an all-white outfit. Tip: you could use stickers if you can’t find fake bumblebees like the decorative ones in the picture.

2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

I did this one last year, and it was a huge hit. Not only was it gorgeous, but really easy to do last-minute. Most Halloween stores have long black gloves readily available at this time of year, so go get some of those. Grab a chunky pearl necklace and earrings from your wardrobe, along with your Little Black Dress (everyone should have one). Use rolled-up cardboard or a pencil to make the iconic Holly Golightly cigarette holder, and voilà!

3. Minion

This one isn’t exactly last-minute. It’s more of “the day of.” Regardless, it shouldn’t be hard to transform yourself into a Minion, provided you already have a few essentials in your wardrobe. You will definitely need a pair of jean overalls – if you don’t have some, it’s time to shop at your local used clothing store.

4. Where is Waldo?

Do you remember Waldo? I used to spend hours trying to find him in the book. Here’s a look you can try! You will need a red and white striped shirt, hipster glasses (dollar store), a red tousel cap, and your camera. Will you blend in or stand out? Who can say?

5. Jellyfish

Ever since I saw this costume on Pinterest, I’ve wanted to try it. Now is your time to shine. Show up at your Halloween party dressed to impress with a cleverly-decorated umbrella. You will need a white outfit, clear umbrella, and streamers. Optional: add glow sticks by weaving them into the umbrella spokes. Easy peasy!

And you don’t need to stress about this…
